£7,000 from Sunderland Museums Acquisitions Fund,
£2,000 from Friends of Sunderland Museums,
The Sunderland museum was able to secure four paintings by the renowned British artist L.S.Lowry
They are of particular significance to Sunderland, and it is pleasing that the work will stay in the area,
and on public view.
Lowry was a regular visitor to the North-East coast, and we see once again his minmalistic and rather
lonely portrayal of himself and the sea.
This style of work has become extremely sought after in today's artworld, as it encapsulates the originality, truth, and sadness in a simplistic way that is very much appreciated by collectors throughout the world. There are many thousands of drawings and oil paintings by L.S. Lowry, but relatively few (approx. fifty) have been published as signed, limited editions
You may find some of our other websites of particular interest; the signed limited edition prints and paintings by wildlife artist David Shepherd,
Also the work of Sir William Russell Flint whose paintings and signed limited edition prints are in great demand.
Famous for his portraits of Cecilia, Flint's greastest works illustrate the architecture and landscape throughout rural France
This holiday house near Brantome, in the area of Dordogne is ideally situated to enjoy the France.
